The soon-to-be 32-year-old stated that he’d like to remain a Viking. That would require a construct restructuring, though, as Peterson’s slated for an $11.75MM salary and $18MM cap number in 2017.
I think you can count on Peterson being as good as gone. There is no way Minnesota spends anywhere near the kind of money some other team might be willing to spend. Thus, the question becomes, what kind of market exists for Peterson? At age 32, regardless of his ability, I cannot imagine anyone breaking the bank for him. At best, he might be a useful piece for someone, but I do not see where he will produce the kind of numbers he did earlier in his career.
That said, Houston, Tampa Bay, and the Giants, are all reasonable thoughts. All need to improve in the run game. Peterson may be the answer. Just not for $18 million.
