Eliot Wolf to Remain in Green Bay

Salute: Pro Football Talk

According to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, Packers executive Eliot Wolf has pulled out of the hunt for San Francisco’s General Manager position.

If you're looking for reasons why the same franchises keep winning, year after year, look no further than stability.  The Packers remain one of the most consistent franchises in the NFL.  Sure, having a quarter century of Hall-of-Fame-level quarterback play probably helps more, but there is something to be said for retaining your Head Coach, General Manager, Coordinators, and key front-office personnel.  The Packers haven't moved Wolf up the ladder and increased his salary just to let him go to San Francisco.  And for Wolf, money talks.  So does power.  Ted Thompson won't be GM forever.  How nice would it be for a young executive like Wolf to step into a secure and winning position?

It's things like this that also explain why New England and Pittsburgh have remained among the top teams for a long time.  Sure, Brady and Roethlisberger help.  But so do having the same bosses every year.
