2017 Draft Order

The Draft Order for the 2017 NFL Draft is beginning to be clarified.  The Cleveland Browns are on the clock.  Following Cleveland, the top five picks are rounded out by San Francisco, Chicago, Jacksonville, and Tennessee.  The Titans pick comes over from the Rams in last summer's trade that netted them the first-overall draft pick which they used to take Quarterback Jared Goff.

The NFL Draft will be held April 27, 2017.  And, with that date a mere 115 days away, Draft Site.com has their mock draft because this is about the only thing fans of non-playoff teams have to look forward to.

Naturally, the 2016 playoff teams do not have their draft slots nailed down as the playoffs haven't even begun.

I do find it very interesting that Cleveland, at least according to this mock and newspaper reports, is not targeting a quarterback with the first overall pick.  I mean, if any team needs a QB more, it's Cleveland because they couldn't keep their QB's healthy for more than a game at a time.  Cleveland also is loaded with picks, so I could very well see them moving up and back repeatedly as they target players.  Used wisely, the Browns could get healthy quickly.

As for my team, Green Bay, this mock has them taking Alabama tight end O.J. Howard.  Frankly, I don't see it.  The defense has been hammered by injuries, and as I write this, 2015 2nd-round DB Quentin Rollins is in a Detroit hospital having tests for a neck injury suffered in the season finale.  The Packer secondary has been decimated and at times has been playing their fifth and sixth corners.  They finished the game with safeties Morgan Burnett and Micha Hyde playing corner.  Sam Shields, on IR since week one with another concussion, cannot be counted on for next year.  Shields has had multiple head injuries and it wouldn't surprise me if he retires.  Thus, as draft day rolls around, I cannot see Ted Thompson (or his successor Elliot Wolf, if that happens) drafting for anything other than defensive need.
