Including that Super Bowl, he and the Panthers have gone 6-11 over their past 17 games after going 22-2 in their previous 24. The “Promised Land” once again seems like a blurry mirage.
Newton went over 500 points in the 2015 season but had just 282 (#18 among quarterbacks) in 2016. He made $19.5M as the fifth-highest paid player in the NFL and has yet to turn 28. Thus, there is no reason to panic going forward. A better and healthier offensive line and another receiving weapon or two will turn Cam into the monster he has been since coming into the league.
