DeAndre Hopkins: Can This Season Killer Rebound?

Salute: NFL Spin Zone

Who was the worst fantasy pick in 2016, the least valuable player? Let’s lay down the contenders, because there’s no doubt that DeAndre Hopkins disappointed everyone more than anyone.

Very simply put, DeAndre Hopkins was a season-killer.  In all six of my leagues, whoever had the misfortune of owning Hopkins, stunk like three-day-old fish.  In the Total Insanity Football League, he is owned by a perennial playoff favorite; a team that won it all in 2014 and lost the championship in 2015.  In 2016, that team missed the playoffs.

As for Hopkins himself, he went from a 2015 season where he scored 301 points and was the 4th best WR and the 22nd highest scorer overall to last year's dumpster fire when he scored just 160 and was 38th among receivers.

To make matter worse, in the Insanity League, his owner spent $50 of his $300 salary cap on him and is on the hook for $56 more in 2017.

At auction this year, his bid will depend very highly on who is the QB.  If it's Tony Romo, he'll once again be worth $30+.  If it's Osweiler or Savage, let someone else take the risk unless you can get him for single digits.  In that instance, it might be worth taking him and extending a low-risk contract in case it takes Houston TWO offseasons to straighten out their quarterback quagmire.
