"The Redskins are in a position of strength on the long-term aspect," Brandt said. "A long-term deal can happen if Kirk Cousins' camp is willing to not negotiate on the level of the franchise tag number. That did not happen last year."They don’t have to be a slave to the Andrew Luck deal.”
I tend to agree with this. I'm not sure any team is willing to pay a contract at franchise-tag level which will be $21.395M for 2017. Andrew Luck makes, on average, $24.5M per year and Aaron Rodgers averages $22M. It will be hard for Cousins' agents to make the case that he deserves equal or better money than Luck and Rodgers.
