Everything I’ve seen tells me that Montgomery has a much higher ceiling than White. But I also believe that the realization of an NFL player’s potential is very dependent on how his coach utilizes his talents.
Frankly, their roles are about the same. Next year, somebody else will have the majority of the carries. I expect Green Bay to re-sign Eddie Lacy, and New England will still have LaGarrette Blount to do the heavy lifting. Both seem to be high-quality third-down or change-of-pace backs, but not the bell cow. Both are useful in real football. Fantasy-wise, neither should garner much more than a few bucks at auction.
