Browns to Make Run at Garoppolo

Salute: Cleveland.com

Sources say the Browns' interest in Garoppolo is real and that they'll try to trade for him depending on how their draft evaluations go over the next five weeks or so.
If the Browns decide to draft Mitch Trubisky or Deshaun Watson in the first round, they'll be much less likely to pursue the Patriots' backup -- but wouldn't rule it out.

The cost to Cleveland isn't just whatever draft picks they give up.  They, very quickly, will have to make a decision on Garoppolo vis-a-vis a long-term deal.  Garoppolo's rookie contract ends after the 2017 season.  If Cleveland wants to keep him, they'll have to pay big money to do so.  Money isn't the issue.  Cleveland is carrying over more than $50M in cap space from 2016.  If they move on from Garoppolo after trading for him, they will have given up a number one (and presumably more) pick for one season.  And, isn't that kind of how they got into this mess in the first place?
